Amish Peace

Bill & I just returned from a few days visit in Holmes County, Ohio with our friends Dave & Ann.  This was the view from our room at The Lamplight Bed & Breakfast.  Yes, it was a great place to relax.

Evenings on the porch in the rockers...listening to the clip clop of the horses pulling the Amish buggies ...delicious breakfasts & rousing entertainment by our hosts...daytime tours of the Amish countryside...visits to an Amish auction, Heini's Cheese Chalet, Roscoe Village, Lehman's, Wendell August Forge.

We did a "car ride assisted by GPS" scavenger hunt of quilt blocks on barns throughout the area.

Sheep were plentiful, along with cattle and horses.  The electric lines were still there, but they didn't hook into the Amish homes.

We visited Hershberger Farm & Bakery where we saw beautiful Big Ben, a huge Belguim horse (19 hands & 3 inches).
We enjoyed some great Amish cooking at Mrs. Yoder's Kitchen and the Homestead and home-churned ice cream at Walnut Creek.
Just a relaxing time in a settlement far, far from our own way of life.
